GTA 6 Delay History: The Full Timeline

GTA 6's release date has moved twice, from a 2025 window to May 26, 2026, and finally to November 19, 2026. Both changes came straight from Rockstar or Take-Two, not from leaks.

• December 2023. Trailer 1 revealed an initial 2025 release window, with no exact day attached.
• May 2025. Rockstar set its first firm date, May 26, 2026.
• Late 2025. On a Take-Two earnings call, the date moved to November 19, 2026, with Rockstar pointing to extra polish time.
• June 25, 2026. Pre-orders opened worldwide, and the November 19 date held.
• August 27, 2026. Rockstar released the Extended Look, its first big gameplay reveal, and again pointed to November 19, 2026. No new delay was announced.

So the game has been pushed back twice in total, and every date change was official. That track record matters for judging any future rumor: Rockstar has never quietly slipped a date through a leak, so a real delay would come from Rockstar or Take-Two directly.

What Was the Original GTA 6 Release Date?

The original GTA 6 release date was a 2025 window with no exact day. Rockstar pointed to a 2025 release window rather than naming a specific day, so the first real date the studio ever committed to was May 26, 2026.

This one comes up constantly, so it is worth being exact. The distinction matters, because plenty of pages present a specific 2025 date as if Rockstar promised one. It did not. The order is simple: a 2025 window, then a confirmed May 26, 2026 date, then the final November 19, 2026 date. Anyone quoting an exact 2025 day is filling in a blank Rockstar left open.

Why Was GTA 6 Delayed?

GTA 6 was delayed to give the team more time to finish Grand Theft Auto VI with the level of polish players expect. That is the only official reason Rockstar has given, and nothing else has been confirmed.

Claims about hidden development problems or secret internal delays are not confirmed unless Rockstar Games or Take-Two says so directly. Ignore any GTA 6 release date leak claiming a secret new date. The only confirmed date is November 19, 2026.

Will GTA 6 Be Delayed Again?

There is no sign of another GTA 6 delay right now. Rockstar still lists November 19, 2026 as the release date, reaffirmed it when pre-orders opened in June, and pointed to it again during the August Extended Look.

The fact that Rockstar showed nearly 27 minutes of near-final gameplay this close to launch is a strong sign the game is on track, not slipping. Studios do not usually put out a polished gameplay showcase months before a date they expect to miss. No further delay has been announced by Rockstar or Take-Two. Until one of them says otherwise, any talk of GTA 6 being pushed back again is a rumor, not news.

What Time Will GTA 6 Unlock?

Rockstar has not confirmed the exact GTA 6 unlock time for November 19, 2026. What is confirmed is the pre-load: it begins at local midnight on November 12, 2026 for eligible digital pre-orders, one week before launch.

So you can download early, but Rockstar has not yet said whether the game unlocks at midnight in each region or at a single global moment. We will update this section the moment a launch-time schedule is published.

Is GTA 6 Coming to PC?

GTA 6 is not launching on PC. Rockstar has confirmed only PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S for launch, so there is no GTA 6 PC release date yet.

Is GTA 6 Coming to PS4 or Xbox One?

No. GTA 6 is not coming to PS4 or Xbox One. The game was built for current-generation hardware, and last-generation consoles are not part of the plan at launch or after.

June 25, 2026 was the GTA 6 pre-order date, not the release date and not a trailer drop. The only launch date has ever been November 19, 2026.
