  • The World

WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT LEONIDA

Among the most searched GTA 6 details is the world itself. Grand Theft Auto VI takes place across the fictional U.S. state of Leonida, a modern reimagining of Florida, with Vice City at its heart. Rather than a single city, Rockstar's official trailers and screenshots reveal an entire state of neon nightlife, open coastline, wetlands, islands, and quiet rural backcountry.

Several GTA 6 map locations have been officially named, including Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga. Together they point to one of Rockstar's most varied open worlds yet, shifting from neon beachfront to backwater swamp and lonely rural roads.

What Rockstar has not revealed is the complete GTA 6 map layout, its exact size, or the full location count. Any "full map" or map size figure circulating online is unverified until Rockstar confirms it directly.

Rockstar’s newer Leonida material also suggests these regions are meant to feel different in more than scenery alone. Vice City, the Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga are each presented with their own mix of people, businesses, roads, coastlines, and local culture, which points to a world built around distinct regional identities rather than one oversized city stretched across a map.

  • The Leads

THE PROTAGONISTS: LUCIA & JASON

GTA 6 features two playable protagonists: Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval. Their story follows the pair as they try to build a better life in Leonida, only to become caught in a criminal conspiracy that puts their partnership to the test.

Lucia Caminos starts the story fresh out of prison and determined to change her life. Jason Duval, a former Army serviceman who became involved with local criminals, is already familiar with Leonida's dangerous underworld.

Together, Jason and Lucia form the center of the GTA 6 story, with their relationship playing a major role in how the adventure unfolds. The Extended Look also provided a closer look at them working together during gameplay.

Confirmed: Jason and Lucia are GTA 6's two central protagonists, and both are playable characters.

Series' first major voiced female lead. Just out of prison, all-in with Jason. CONFIRMED

◆ Extended Look

What's New After the Extended Look

Gameplay finally shown

Rockstar swapped the cinematic trailer format for a long gameplay presentation, so we finally saw the game running rather than cut together.

Jason & Lucia in action

Both protagonists appeared in playable footage, shown working as a pair across separate situations.

More activities

The showcase spent real time on things to do outside story missions, across different parts of Leonida.

Deeper combat

Shooting, movement and hand-to-hand exchanges looked notably more detailed than GTA 5's systems.

Living world

NPCs reacted to the player and to each other, and more of the environment could be interacted with directly.

Base PS5 footage

Rockstar confirmed the entire Extended Look was captured in-game on a base PlayStation 5.
