GTA 6 Map: Leonida Size, Regions, and Confirmed Locations

The GTA 6 map covers Leonida, a fictional take on Florida built around Vice City. After the August 2026 Extended Look and the previews that followed, we finally have real numbers on the map, and the short version is that it is huge. Rockstar North has now confirmed the scale, named six regions, and shown a lot of the world in motion. What is still missing is the full layout, so this page keeps the confirmed details separate from the leaked maps still floating around.

● CONFIRMED NAME

Vice City

This is a confirmed name with an approximate reference point on the map.

GTA 6 is set in the state of Leonida, with Vice City as its main city. Leonida is Rockstar’s take on Florida, so alongside the neon and beaches of Vice City you get an island chain, swampland, small towns, a working port, and open rural roads. Jason and Lucia move through all of it, not just the city.

So when people ask where GTA 6 is located or what city it is based on, the answer has two parts. The city is Vice City, a stand-in for Miami. The wider world is the whole state of Leonida, which is far bigger than any single city.

How Big Is the GTA 6 Map?

The full Leonida map is about twice the size of GTA 5’s map and about three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2’s, according to Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson. Rockstar has not published an exact square-mile figure, so these remain comparison numbers rather than official dimensions.

For years the GTA 6 map size was the biggest unanswered question, and the honest answer was that Rockstar had never said. That changed after the Extended Look. In previews at Rockstar North, Nelson gave real figures for the first time.

Here is what is now confirmed, straight from Rockstar North:

  • The full Leonida map is about twice the size of GTA 5’s map.
  • It is about three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2’s map.
  • Vice City on its own is about twice the size of Los Santos.
  • Vice City and its surrounding built-up areas are around 11 times the size of Los Santos and its suburbs.

Nelson also said Leonida is far more densely populated than San Andreas, and that a lot of the world is meant to be found through exploration rather than map icons. So this is not just a bigger empty space. It is a bigger, busier one.

One thing to keep in mind. These are comparison figures, not an official square-mile number, and Rockstar has still not published an exact size in miles. For a closer look at how the two worlds stack up, see our full GTA 6 map vs GTA 5 comparison.

What Are the Confirmed GTA 6 Regions and Locations?

Rockstar has confirmed six distinct regions across Leonida: Vice City, Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga. Each one has its own look, terrain, and way of getting around.

  • Vice City. The heart of the game, a neon Miami stand-in packed with beaches, clubs, and nightlife. This is the region Lucia skydives over in the Extended Look. For the full breakdown, see our Vice City guide.
  • Leonida Keys. A sunlit island chain modeled on the real Florida Keys, with jet skis, kayaks, airboats, and scuba diving among the marine life.
  • Grassrivers. Wetland and swamp country, the Everglades of Leonida, best crossed by airboat.
  • Port Gellhorn. A working port town described as a former tourist spot, a grittier contrast to Vice City’s glitz.
  • Ambrosia. A rural area that also ties into racing, including dirt and off-road events.
  • Mount Kalaga. A national-park style wilderness with higher ground, the kind of backcountry Rockstar loves to hide secrets in.

Put those together and the shape is clear. This is a whole state with cities, coast, islands, swamp, and wilderness, not one city with some countryside attached. You can explore every confirmed spot on our interactive Leonida map above.

What Is the GTA 6 Map Based On?

The GTA 6 map is based on Florida, top to bottom. Leonida is Rockstar’s version of the state, and once you notice it you cannot stop seeing it.

Vice City is Miami in all but name, all neon, palm trees, and coastline. The swampy stretches read as the Everglades. The Keys mirror the real Florida Keys trailing south off the coast. Fans have pointed to Tampa and Orlando as possible models for other areas, though Rockstar sticks to fictional names rather than confirming any exact real-world match.

That is the usual Rockstar move. Take a real place, keep its bones, then push everything into satire. Leonida is unmistakably Florida in spirit, just twisted into Rockstar’s own version of it.

The New In-Game Map and HUD

The Extended Look also gave the first look at how you actually read the map while playing. The on-screen minimap now shows 3D buildings rather than a flat top-down layout, which makes dense areas like Vice City much easier to navigate. The full pause-menu map uses detailed satellite-style imagery instead of the older illustrated style.

Small changes on paper, but they matter in a world this size, and they are a good sign of how much detail Rockstar is packing into Leonida.

Are the Leaked GTA 6 Maps Real?

No. Rockstar has not released an official full GTA 6 map, so every complete layout circulating online is either a fan concept or an outdated leak. The confirmed regions and size figures are real, but any map showing exact borders and every district filled in is speculation.

Search for the GTA 6 map and you will find dozens of complete, detailed layouts all claiming to show the whole world. Treat every one with caution, because Rockstar has not released an official full map yet.

They fall into a few groups. Some are honest fan concept maps built from trailer clues and clearly labeled as guesses, and those are fine as long as you know what they are. Others get passed around as real leaks with nothing behind them. A few trace back to the 2022 leak, which was genuine but showed an early build from years ago, not the finished world.

The confirmed size figures do line up with what leakers had claimed, so the general scale of the leaks turned out to be roughly right. But roughly right is not the same as an official map. Trust the confirmed regions and locations. Treat any map with exact borders and every district neatly filled in as speculation until Rockstar releases the real thing, which will most likely arrive close to launch.
